Far Cry 6’s Vaas: Insanity DLC’s takes the mind of the beloved FC3 protagonist and translates it into solid roguelike gameplay. Doing the same thing over and over, as Vaas, is the definition of insanity, and that pitch alone makes the Far Cry 6 DLC enticing. Playing it, on the other hand, is unreal. With Michael Mando bringing back Vaas after 9 years, it’s a must-play for any FC3 fans out there.
It adds more to the character, really exploring Vaas’ relationship with Citra and Jason Brody. What this DLC proves is that, in the end, Far Cry 3’s Vaas beats Citra and Jason Brody thanks to its secret ending. More importantly, though, is how thorough it goes through Vaas’ childhood, the major events of Far Cry 3, and every little Easter egg connected back to the classic. However, one Easter egg as narrated by Vaas stands out more so than anything.
Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity DLC Has a Beautiful PT Easter Egg
If there is one thing that will likely linger in the gaming discourse and conscience for years to come, it’s PT, or Playable Teaser, for Silent Hills. In it, players go through hallways and encounter a hostile ghost named Lisa. It’s very daunting and scary, really meshing well with Hideo Kojima’s skills in the industry. Nonetheless, nothing ever came from it for Silent Hills, and that’s where Vaas comes in.
During the Checking Out quest in Vaas’ DLC, players must dive after themselves when Jason Brody narrates Far Cry 3’s epic “definition of insanity line” and pushes Vaas down a hole. This brings players to a massive hotel, where players can encounter visions of Vaas’ life in and outside of it. It doesn’t always trigger, but when players enter the hotel and see a hallway leading to a door, Vaas will compare it to PT.
“F*ck, yeah. This reminds me of the game…wait, with that—the trailer with the f*cking…with the hallway? What the f*ck ever happened to that?” Of course, reading it is nothing like hearing Vaas himself deliver it:
Vaas’ DLC may not be terribly long, taking roughly an hour or two to beat a complete full run (but with plenty of reasons to hit higher Mind Levels), but it is jam-packed with references for fans of the franchise—and for aspects outside it. Needless to say, this sets up a good precedent for Far Cry 6’s DLC. Many were, understandable so, disappointed with Far Cry 5’s DLC run, but with more coming—this time focused on Pagan Min and Joseph Seed—it seems like there’s a good bit of hope after Vaas.
Far Cry 6’s Vaas: Insanity DLC is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
